Welcome To Muddy Dog Vet Hospital

We are a three doctor mixed animal practice.

We are lucky enough to live in an area in the country with a healthy economy and a growing population.

We are close to big city life AND get the benefits of rural countryside. The Blue Ridge Mountains are a day trip and the ocean/beach is just a weekend trip! If you are interested in an externship, you may want to check out the fun things to do and plan for a full stay.

One to two week externships with no cost housing are provided for students enrolled in veterinary medical schools. (Must get dates approved in advance so cabin is not being used).

Housing: Two story tiny home on working sheep farm. 16 x 16 cabin (two stories though) Wifi, washer and dryer, bedding, full kitchen and bathroom in the tiny home.

The farm is a mile away from Dr Price's home place so she is very available too.

You do also get solo time if you're at the point in your career where you are NAVLE studying.

At Muddy Dog Veterinary Hospital, we’re more than just a team—we’re a family dedicated to delivering quality veterinary care to your and your furry family. Each member brings a unique blend of talent, creativity, and passion to ensure we achieve exceptional results.

What our externs do

We do offer mixed animal medicine, so even small animal students have enjoyed getting to lead a full-grown ram castration by the end of their externship.

Our small animal to farm animal ratio is 85/15.

We enjoy going over a case presentation that you have seen while with us.

For externs interested in business ownership, we have opportunities to specifically discuss your business goals/aspirations/plans

We are more than happy to have the extern set goals for themselves if they prefer!

What externs should do while visiting us for fun!

We highly recommend the following fun activities:

Hiking at Hanging Rock State Park (free) or see their waterfalls (One pictured above and it's also free)

Hiking at Pilot Mountain State Park (free)

Winery visit at Stonefield Cellars (Cost)

Visit the Greensboro Natural Science Center. (Cost). They updated and have a great outdoor zoo/education animal exhibits.

Maybe your favorite concert will be in town for your externship at the Greensboro Coliseum (Cost)

Participate in border collie sheep herding with Dr Price if that is your thing!

Relax!

Bring a book!

Relax or study during your "off" time at the clinic.

Maybe you're studying for the NAVLE You will have your own personal two story cabin and room to actually feel like you can BREATHE!

Above is the view from your bedroom at the student cabin.

A well behaved dog is welcomed. (We do release quail, promote wildlife and appreciate the sheep not being chased.)

Since the cabin is not on site at the clinic, you will be provided an older, but working vehicle.

Please bring your valid license!
